Drive-by Church—God’s Plan
Aug 5th, 2007 by Elsi
Saturday night I used the internet to find a Christian church to attend in the morning. The best bet was in Kemmerer, Wyoming, about an hour and a half from my campground (Garden City, Utah). I drove around the bottom of Bear Lake and into Wyoming, where I promptly got lost in Kemmerer. I drove through town, turned around, and drove back. I turned up Moose Avenue (it seemed an auspicious choice) and asked for directions at a convenience store. And eventually I landed at the Valley Evangelical Free Church on Sapphire Avenue. They aren’t a large body, but they’re certainly friendly and personable! Good singing, good fellowship, a video sermon by Chip Ingram. And shared Communion.I’m fascinated by the power of Communion, even when I’m among strangers. Of course, those strangers are my brothers and sisters in Christ …And it’s primarily believers we are communicating with—after all, God is with us at all times, available at a word or thought. Jesus told His disciples, “Take this and divide it among you” (Luke 22:17); it is intended for us, for us to remember Who He is and what He did and does. So, when I take Communion, I try to remember what He did, what He has done for me, what he is doing and will do; and to remember that this act shows unity among friends I’m with, my own church, believers in the church I’m in, all believers in all times.
