Obedient or absurd?

I was listening to a Henri Nouwen book on tape as I drove home last Monday. He gave the origins of some words (something that I find fascinating). I checked a dictionary of etymology this week, and he’s absolutely right.
The root of obedient is audire, “to listen to.” The root of absurd is surdus, “deaf.”
Therefore, the one who listens is obedient. And if you don’t listen? Well, that’s absurd!
