… in a strange land …

No email access last night, but this evening we’re in Lawrence, Kansas, and all is technologically swift again.
We stopped in Butler, Kansas for supper. I was headed for a Chinese restaurant, which had closed. In trying to turn around, I spotted an informative sign, partly hidden in tree branches. “Birthplace of Robert Heinlein,” it said, with an arrow.
Supper? Who cares about supper! I made the turn, and we were on the hunt. Another arrow to the left, and another turn … and we were at a dead end, with no signage of any kind. Sigh. Well, we were in the right town, anyway, even if we didn’t get to see the house, or memorial stone, or whatever.
At the Sonic, I asked about Heinlein’s house. “I live here,” the cashier said, “so I haven’t been there.” Y’know, that almost makes sense!
The Sonic people were a delight, though, and the car hop delivered our meal to the RV in the parking lot, just as if we were in a car and part of their system!
