Following Jesus

My friends Vicki and Agnes came over this afternoon to help me unload the RV after our whirlwind trip to Missouri this week. I was passing stuff out to them, and they were carrying it into the house. Suddenly my beagle, Lady, came tearing into the RV.
“How did she get out?” I asked, concerned.
Vicki had opened the door, and Lady had zipped through at full speed. With Vicki hot on her trail, Lady zoomed straight to the RV, didn’t even pause at the steps (which normally cause her pain), leapt inside, and came running to me. Her desire to be with me overcame the pain running and jumping caused. “Don’t leave me!” she was clearly saying.
Which left me thinking: That’s how I should feel about following close to Jesus. Without pausing to consider pain or difficulty, I should be running after him, calling, “Wait! I’m coming! Don’t leave me!”
“Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road (Mark 10:52).
