Girl Scout cookie time
Feb 16th, 2010 by Elsi
I joined Brownies as young as you could in the ’50s: 2nd grade, 1954. We sold Girl Scout cookies door-to-door; it was safe then. They were 45¢ a box. Mother, our leader, said one of the best things that ever happened to her was when cookies went up to 50¢. She said she could teach 8 year olds to make change for multiples of 50¢, but not multiples of 45¢!
Cookies are $3.25 this year. ;-D I bought some boxes (for youth group) at Safeway, from a family with a junior Scout and a Brownie. I asked the Brownie to make a recommendation, and she said the new flavor is “Thank You Berry Much,” with cranberries. So I looked at the box and told her, “This says it serves 7 people. I have about 16 kids in my church youth group. How many boxes should I get?” With barely a pause she answered, “At least three.”
Good job! And she’s only 2nd grade! Now, if my kids like cookies with cranberries in them …
Hi Elsi - I’ve been enjoying our Girl Scout cookies! I liked the sound of the Thank You Berry Much ones but haven’t tried them yet. My kids didn’t like the sound of them. Will have to track down a box this weekend.
That’s very thoughtful of you to buy cookies for your youth group - I hope they enjoy them.
