Hands lifted high

For me, the symbolism of what I do during praise and worship is strong. Yes, I’m capable of standing and singing, perhaps swaying a bit in rhythm, if that’s what the group I’m with is doing. But, left to my own devices, I will dance, just a little, and raise my hands in praise to the King.
Sometimes my hands stretch out with palms up. Dennis Jernigan calls this the “Daddy’s home” posture, as I’m reaching out to my Abba, pleading for a hug, for grace and mercy and comfort.
Sometimes my palms face forward, the “I surrender” motion beloved of cop shows. Yes, Lord, I surrender to Your power and glory and majesty; You are holy; You are Lord.
Sometimes I’m almost waving a virtual flag or banner—it’s not really there, but that’s what I’m doing with my hands and arms.
Most powerful, to me, is that my hands are open, ready to accept whatever He has for me. My hands are open, not clinging to my own needs or concerns. So, when I’m feeling depressed or overwhelmed (as at present), I open my hands to reach for Him—and start to cry.
Thank You, Lord, for loving me!
