Bible reading

Here are my notes from my Bible reading time this morning:
9/17 “When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider: God has made the one as well as the other.” Ecclesiastes 7:13-14a And there’s my theme again: ”God is sovereign! He made the bad times, too! So He must have made them for a purpose … whether I like it isn’t really the issue, is it? Now, what do I do with that, I wonder …
“Now it is God Who had made us for this very purpose …” 2 Corinthians 5:5a This is part of why He made me, to be going through what I’m going through now. I really don’t like that … or, maybe … if He planned it, then that’s far better than if it just happened, or it’s out of His will, somehow …
“He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will not be shaken.” Psalm 62:6 Yeah! Oh, yeah! I’m terribly shaken just now, but with You as my rock and my fortress, my salvation, I shouldn’t need to worry! Now, how to build on that …
I wish God could do without the pesky bad times. They are hard to go through, but at least, as you say, those times are not random and do serve a higher purpose. But I don’t like it (am I supposed to?)
No, I don’t think we’re “supposed” to like the bad times. We are, however, asked to believe that, in God’s sovereignty, the bad times are in His hands and intended for our good. My, that’s hard!
